Santa Ana sits in the middle of Orange County's densest stretch of parking structures, kerbed driveways and construction plating. Wheels take a beating here. This is a straight account of what can be put right, what cannot, and how to tell the difference before you pay.
What is genuinely repairable
- Curb rash and gouged edges. The damaged metal comes off, the profile is rebuilt, the finish is matched. See curb rash repair.
- Corroded and lifting finishes. Common on wheels a few years into coastal air. Stripped back and refinished.
- Machined and diamond-cut faces. Re-cut on a lathe so the concentric grain runs unbroken — see diamond-cut repair.
- Bends, within limits. Many bent rims straighten on a press. Some do not, and a wheel that will not hold true gets that verdict rather than another attempt — wheel straightening.
What we will not repair
Cracks in structural areas. Monaco does not weld them. Welding a crack is possible and some shops sell it; our position is that a repaired crack in the wrong part of a wheel is a risk the saving does not justify. You get told to replace the wheel — including when that means we do not do the work.
We also do not do chrome plating (we do chrome delete, which is the opposite), and we do not sell or fit tyres.
A shop willing to tell you "replace it" is more useful than one that will repair anything you bring in.
How to tell a lasting repair from a cosmetic one
Two checks you can do in the car park before you drive away:
- Sight along the lip. Crouch so the rim edge runs away from you. The repaired section should follow the same curve — no flat spot, no dip. A flat spot means filler over torn metal.
- Change the light. Walk the car from shade into sun. A colour match that is close but wrong looks perfect in shade and obviously off in daylight.

Why Santa Ana wheels come in the way they do
Two patterns dominate. Multi-storey parking ramps produce edge damage on one side of the car — tight turns against a raised kerb, usually the passenger side. Construction plating and expansion joints produce bends rather than scratches, and those often arrive as "a vibration that started recently" rather than visible damage.
